Dubuque teachers react to education funding budget

DUBUQUE – Governor Branstad signed a bill which will increase the education spending budget by 1.1 percent. Some teachers argue that this $40 million dollar increase is inadequate.

Fifth grade teacher Jenny Trenkamp believes there may never be an adequate amount for what kids need. She has never felt like her job was threatened by past budget reductions in the district and is confident in the Dubuque Commmunity School District this time around.

Mike Cyze, Director of School and Community Relations, says the district will not have to make any significant budget reductions. He is grateful the school district has made precautionary steps to avoid budget cuts this year.
