Women’s track wins final ARC triangular

The nationally ranked Women’s Track and Field team came into the Central Triangular meet ready to showdown one last time before taking on the whole conference March 7. The team took down Central College (No. 6) and Buena Vista with a score of 111 over Central’s 80 and Buena Vista’s 72 .

On the track, first year Erin Phelan led the day off with her first collegiate win in the 5000 meter run clocking in at 21:38. Her teammate, senior Courtney Knight took third. Senior Kassie Rosenbum kept her winning streak alive by running a hard effort mile in 5:03. On the sprints side, first year Kelly Kohlhof led off in the 200 meter dash in 27.11 and first year Sophia Schuler placed second to her teammate in 27.44. Junior Elayna Bahl won the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.25 seconds with her teammate senior Bailey Vance completing the sprint in 9.76 to take third. The women qualified 6 of 8 in the 60-meter dash and came back to sweep the entries–juniors Marion Edwards and Stevie Lambe had good performances to take first and second place. Finally, sophomore Alyssa Pfandenhauer made her 800 debut by placing second (2:23.86) and then came back to take third in the 60 meter dash to her teammates in 8.17 seconds.

Turning to the field, senior Kayla Weatherly through a BOMB to start the day. With a lifetime best throw of 13.26 meters in the shotput she won the event and is now ranked 9th nationally and is 6th on the all time list at Loras College. She sparked a fire in the throwing events as her teammate, senior Courtney Schnoor, took second with a lifetime best throw of 12.36 meters. Senior Carly Fischer continued the saga with a second place finish in the weight throw with a 16.03 meter performance. On the jump side, sophomore Grace Alley finished first in high jump with her teammates finishing close behind her taking second, first year Sara Hoskins and third, first year Hannah Zortman.

To end the night, the women’s 4×4 team took third in 4:17.69 and was comprised of sophomore Grace Alley, junior Kaylee Osterberger, sophomore Abby Landwehr, and junior Ellie Osterberger. The women will compete against the entire conference at the last indoor meet of the season in a one day event March 7.
