Duhawks have eye towards future

With the recent success Loras wrestling can only think what will happen in the coming years. After waiting 17 years between National Champions, from 1997 until 2014, head coach Randy Steward and current wrestlers know they won’t have to wait another 17 years.

“Next year,” was a common statement by Malcolm Watson and Dayton Olson when asked when will Loras have another National Champion. A junior and freshman, both want to succeed on the national level and know it is possible. Senior Steven DeWitt and Junior Nick Steger went to Hershey, Pennsylvania this year with hopes and realistic expectations of coming home as National Champions, but both fell in the semifinals and came up short finishing 4th and fifth respectively. Watson and Olson both want to get the national experience, but not by themselves, “We want to succeed as a team, we want to win not only for us, but for Loras College and Duhawk wrestling.”

“I want to have a program that Loras College can be proud off,” says Coach Steward. “Not that they aren’t proud of it already, but now it’s time to take it to the next step and hopefully the recent success shows the guys we have on the roster that they can do it, we can do it, Loras College wrestling can do it on the big stage.”

Time will tell when Loras College Wrestling will crown another champion, but something certainly says it won’t be too long.
