An Experience beyond the Court

LORAS COLLEGE – It can be a experience of a lifetime. A trip with teammates that extends beyond the┬áborders of a volleyball court.

The Duhawk volleyball team was lucky enough to take a trip to Nicaragua not only to play volleyball, but to experience a third world country and realize what all they have been blessed with here at home in the United States.

“It’s so different down there. Different from Dubuque, different from Chicago,” says Coach Ness.

“I would definitely go back, I would go down there not only for vacation, but to volunteer and give my time because you can see in their eyes the people are so happy when they see us.”

Taking advantage of an NCAA rule allowing teams to take a trip every three years, Coach Ness says the planning for the next trip is already in motion. “Yeah we just got back, but we are already planning for the next one. Do I want to go back to Nicaragua? Yes, but the girls will have some say.”
