School Buses Transportation Tablet Testing

The Dubuque Community School District is testing out a new device to make student bus rides easier.

The district has launched 10 buses implemented with a transportation tablet. Sageville Elementary School is the first to test out the tablets.

The system works by students scanning their ID cards. Some features include GPS directions and maintaining track of bus routes.

Dubuque Community School District Transportation Manager Ernie Bolibaugh says the tablet also includes an app parents can download to monitor their children commute

“They can see where their buses on their route, what pickup the estimated pickup time is”

Each tablet ranges from 700 to 800 dollars per bus. Although the tablets are currently being tested out, Bolibaugh hopes to see these be installed in each bus overtime.
