Loras College Committee Host Immigration Talk

Dubuque, IA- Tuesday night, Loras College Students, Faculty and advocates gathered to discuss Immigration. 

The Loras College Faith and Values Education Committee organized, “Othering” Perspectives on the Latinx Immigration Experience. 

This event featured three discussion panelists. Brenda Gomez a Hispanic Outreach Specialist at U-W Platteville, LULAC( League of United Latin American Citizens) state director Nick Salazar, and Megan Ruix the Executive Director of the Presentation Lantern Center

The community leaders discussed many issues facing the local LatinX community, including the immigration process and deportation as well as national threats to the DACA program. 

I really hope that people will become aware of the situation that’s going on right now and that they’ll be open too learning more about it.

Speakers also emphasized the benefits of immigration to the community. Attendees participated in table talks and discussed community volunteer opportunities and resources.
