Iconic mural being removed

DUBUQUE – If you’re from Dubuque, you would probably recognize the iconic Peanuts character mural on the Aragon Tap building on the corner of Iowa and 11th Street.

The mural is slowly fading on the building’s side now, as workers continue to work to remove it.

This got quite the reaction on Facebook when a woman posted about it. The post racked up more than 200 shares and 50 comments.

Mural painter Deanna Allan is disappointed to see her childhood work go.

“I was hoping I would have, you know, some time to show my grandkids – when they ever arrive – that, ‘you know this is something that grandma did’ but that’s not the opportunity for that to happen anymore. So I’m kind of, you know, a little bit saddened by it,” she said.

The reason for the mural being removed is still unknown, although it appears to be for some building renovations.

Allan said she would be happy to repaint the mural on the building, but she hasn’t been asked to do that by anyone.
