Hotel Julien tree lighting ceremony

DUBUQUE – It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Hotel Julien downtown Dubuque on Wednesday evening. The hotel celebrated their annual tree lighting ceremony, accompanied by a visit from Santa Claus, and a special performance by Loras’ very own Chamber Choir.

Hotel Julien’s general manager, Dwight Hopfauf, informed LCTV News that this yearly event actually begins its preparations in July with the selection of the massive tree which will grace the lobby. It then takes a flatbed truck and eight volunteers to bring the tree into the hotel, where it is stood up and decorated over the course of two days.

Around 6,000 lights are used to light up the tree and bring Christmas joy to all who witness it.
