Duhawks ‘just keep dancing’ at Miracle Prom

With Dance Marathon only seven months away, the e-board and morale captains are working hard to get students and kiddos involved. This past Saturday, Sept. 17, Loras College hosted the Dance Marathon Miracle Prom in the ballrooms from 6-8 p.m. Attendees and kiddos came dressed to impress for the big event.

Dance Marathon is well known for hosting a variety of events before the big day in April. Each of these events involves spending time raising money for the kids, bonding with other dancers from different grades, building community, and, of course, interacting with the kids from the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital they will be dancing for in April. This particular event gave the kids a chance to dance in preparation for the 12 hour event later this year.

The theme for the night was “Under the Sea,” so the room was decorated with blue and green streamers, scales, fish, a huge shark and seaweed. The event had games like a bottle toss, Bozo buckets, bags and a photo booth opportunity. Along with that, participants could color at the tables if they needed a break from the real event and the whole point: the dancing.

For two hourdmprompic3s straight, the Loras College Dance Marathon team danced to Disney classics, ABBA oldies, some new hits, and, of course, the 2015 morale dance. Although it was only a fraction of the amount of time they dance in April, it was just as much fun.

The event brought in a few kids and potential dancers to add to the fun. It was a great way to show the energetic atmosphere that is Dance Marathon while also doing it all for the kids.

Dance Marathon will have another event to get involved in: the Color FT5K Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8. Registration is taking place throughout the rest of the month and into the week before the race begins. Participants can sign up to run or walk by logging on to loras.edu/dM. Sign up for this event and more to experience even more of what LCDM has to offer.
