  1. What do you teach? 

Principles of Biology and Microbiology

2. What attracted you to the topic that you teach? 

It teaches you how the world around us works and it gets at the big questions, like where we came from.

3. What advice would you give to a student who is taking one of your classes for the first time? 

I can talk all day, but I prefer to listen. Bring your ideas and questions!

4. What were some of the qualities you saw in your favorite teachers when you were a student? 

They made material relevant, talked about the big picture/ethics, and cared about student opinions.

5. What do you like to do when you’re not teaching at Loras (e.g., hobby or pastime)?  

College Football, hiking, and travel

6. What’s your favorite book? Why? 

No One is Talking About This”. Hard to explain… it’s a comedy that gets really deep and dark and has the best writing about the internet I’ve ever read… plus, it’s very short, so check it out!

7. What, if anything, are you currently binge watching? Or, What has been your favorite show that you binge watched? 

Finishing “Bachelor in Paradise” this weekend. Pulling for Joe and Serena. No spoilers! Favorite all-time was “Westworld”, but only season 1.

8. Did Carol Baskin (Tiger King) kill her husband? 

Killed her husband. Whacked him.

9. What’s your usual order at Starbucks? 

Dirty chai latte, extra shot.

10. Beer or wine? Why? 

I study yeast so this is a tough one… wine because of the history and the intensity of the craft. We’ve been making wine for at least 9,000 years!
