LORAS COLLEGE – Steven DeWitt wants perfection. Perfection that ends in a National Championship, looking down on his opponents on top of the podium.
“That is perfection. If you can go undefeated in the National Tournament, that is perfection.”
DeWitt transferred to Loras his junior year after attending junior college in central Illinois. After making it to the National Tournament his junior year, DeWitt failed to make it to the second day going 1-2 in his 3 matches. Heartbroken that he couldn’t make All-American, DeWitt came back his senior year ready to take on the wrestling world. After finishing his season with a 31-2 record which included receiving his only losses at an tournament in Wisconsin and being named Outstanding Wrestler at the Central Regional. DeWitt the regular season is only trial and error in preparation for Nationals.
Looking back on his career, DeWitt knows wrestling has given him an outlet to live a very happy life and would give anything back to the sport. When asked what he’ll miss most at Loras, “It’s the brotherhood, the friends I’ve made. The two-a-days in the preseason, “It hit me in the fall that this was my last preseason.”
DeWitt knows his wrestling career has been well-worth it, but nothing could be better than ending his career as a National Champion.
UPDATE: After reaching the semifinals, DeWitt fell to Nick Carr and finished 4th after defeating Drew Wagenhoffer of Wartburg for a third time this year in wrestlebacks.
