Men’s Soccer – The men’s soccer team wants another trip to Texas this December, this time with a different result. Coach Rothert told SportsZONE that it is their motivation after losing last year. “There are very high expectations, but that’s what left on the table to win the whole thing and we’re excited about that challenge,” says Rothert. It is a very exciting time for the men’s soccer team. Last year they reached the ”Final Four” for the third time in the past five years and they hope to make it a fourth trip in six years, but this time they hope to return with their first National Championship.
Women’s Soccer – After reaching the “Sweet 16” for the third time in program history, the women’s soccer team is back and ready for more. With ten returning starters from last year, along with ten incoming players joining the flock, the Duhawks are looking to fly higher than ever before. New assistant coach and former Loras soccer player, Kelly Murphy, told SportsZONE that the girls are looking to take the next step after gaining valuable experience last year with the success they had as a young team. The Duhawks were ranked 11th in the national preseason ranking, but they want to finish with only one “1” in that ranking.
Football – The 2013-2014 football season is in full swing with a hefty forty-six first years being welcomed to the Duhawk family. This large group is what Coach Paul Mierkiewicz says will bring the program to the numbers needed to make it a threat in the IIAC conference. With all these newcomers though, leadership will have to be something that outweighs potential. Coach Mierkiewicz is confident with the leadership coming from all ages and believes the team has become not just a team, but a family.
Volleyball – The Duhawk volleyball team is not just meeting two new coaches upon starting this season, but also seventeen new players. New Coach Jenna Ness is grateful to have the junior leadership she has since there are no seniors on the team this season and that girls are willing to work hard to help benefit this program. She believes, with the attitudes these girls possess, the volleyball team has what it takes to reach new heights.
