DUBUQUE – The Duhawks made some noise on the mats at the NCAA DIII Regional Wrestling Championships last Saturday.
With 15 schools and 10 weight classes it was set to be a long day at the Five Flags Center.
Freshman Clint Lembeck and Junior Jimmy Davis wrestled through the day with ease, to gain their spots at Nationals within just a few matches. The others had a bit more work to do.
At 197, Freshman Guy Patron started strong but was taken down Luther’s Derek Stork in the last second, fought his way back wrestling against Stork for a second time that day moving on to Nationals.
Sophomore Quinn Gilliam also started off strong, but fell short of the safety net for the top two spots. Forced to wrestleback to claim a spot in Nationals, Gilliam won by fall over Colby Vlieger of Simpson College.
These four Duhawks make the trip to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for Nationals on March 10th and 11th.
