Coming off their 4-0 win against Macalester to open the season, the Loras Women’s Soccer team played host to Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday. Early into the first half, Gustavus Adolphus got on the board first with Abby Mullenbach scoring a goal and putting the Golden Gusties up 1-0. Then with four minutes left to go in the half, Abby Eriksen gets one passed the Gusties goalie, and ties the game up for the Duhawks.
Early in the second half Loras Midfielder Jenny Wick makes a spectacular move on her defender, and buries the ball right into the net to put the Duhawks up 2-1. Loras would tack on another goal scored by Payton McDonnell, and the Gusties couldn’t find a way to get back in the game after that. Loras would go on to win the game by a score of 3-1.
Coach Matt Pucci was happy with the win, but was more pleased about his goalie Kaylee Coble. “She’s been solid,” Pucci said. “I think theirs’s a lot more to get out of her as well when she made some great saves at the end of halves to keep us in games last season and we are hitting the surface with her this year.”
The Duhawks next game won’t be till Saturday September 7th, when they take on College of St. Scholastica at the Rock Bowl.
