DUBUQUE – For the past four years, the men’s Cross Country team has come close to beating reigning champs St. Olaf, and this year that dream may become a reality.
The men have recently moved from the number two spot, to number one. The meet that helped bring them ahead was The Running of the Cows, hosted by Carleton on October 1.
Junior Danny Krasich said, “It really comes down to race day and what we do on the course that’s gonna decide where we end up.”
The Regional Championships will be held on November 12.
Another meet that helped the men maintain their position was the Loras Invitational last Friday at the Dubuque Soccer Complex.
In the men’s race, Junior Mason Tope opened a significant gap cruising to victory 29 seconds ahead of NIACC’s Wal Khat. The men repeated as champions with 22 team points, 35 points ahead of second place.
In the women’s race Sophomore Audrey Miller dominated the course, jumping into an early lead and never looking back, finishing with her second best career time. The women also kept their title as champions with 31 team points, 21 points ahead second place.
The Duhawks will compete in the Iowa Conference Championships on the October 29th.
