Buss is out of Commission
LORAS COLLEGE- James Buss wrapped up a very successful season by winning the national title at the 2014 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. He entered the tournament as the #4 seed and was determined to get past his arch nemesis, Chad Johnson, who was the top ranked wrestler and two-time national championship. Johnson was the guy who beat Buss 6-2 in last year’s championships, so you knew Buss was out to get some revenge. He got exactly that as he knocked off Johnson in the semi-finals by getting an escape and a takedown in the waning moments.
This set up a title matchup with conference foe, Ryan Fank of Wartburg. Fank had won the two previous match ups between the two wrestlers, but now that was a stat of the past. Heading into the third period, Buss had the advantage 2-1. With less than 30 seconds left in the match, Fank shot and missed. Buss capitalized by spinning around and getting two points. James Buss had just realized his dream by taking the 4-1 victory.
Winning the title is a monumental accomplishment that can allow you to keep the ball rolling so to speak into the next season. You will have that fire and motivation to train even harder to keep that title in your grasp. It is very unfortunate that James Buss was not able to compete this year due to undisclosed reasons. Duhawk fans hope he can join the team again in the future, while the competition is happy to wait for his return.
