LORAS COLLEGE – The Loras men’s and the women’s soccer teams welcomed former players back to the Rock Bowl for a friendly game to start off a day of athletes past and present giving back to the team. The third annual alumni soccer meet was met with enthusiasm from recent graduates Jayne Eslinger and Hilary Wilson.
“It’s great being back at the Rock Bowl. It’s the first anniversary of my graduation and I definitely miss playing here on the field and it’s great to be around my Duhawks,” said Eslinger.
“It’s always great coming back here – it’s kind of like my family. My sister is on the girl’s team right now; my older sister was on the team; my fiance is on the guy’s team; everyone here is my best friend; I’ve lived with all the girls too; it’s just like a family reunion,” Wilson explained.
But the event was about more than putting on some cleats and running the field.
“We ask all of our current students… to expect to be a great alum,” said Coach Dan Rothert. “Part of that is giving back and coming to alumni games if they’re capable. We have alumni that aren’t playing today, but they’re going to be here tonight… We have a trivia night- a social fundraising night – for our program with upwards of 300 people in the cafeteria. It’s a great night for Loras soccer and alumni, parents, families, friends of our program. It’s pretty neat to have them all come back to show their support year after year.”
