If it were reported that a foreign government had bombed an American school bus with more than 40 children being killed by said bombing, the public would be outraged, furious, horrified and vengeful. Rightfully so, I may add. Instead, I am speaking of an event that occurred in Yemen that 51 people died according to Al Jazeera. 40 of them were children. This horrid and unacceptable act was carried out by the Saudi Arabian government, funded by none other than our very own government. Our taxes are going to a Theocratic Monarchy that has routinely murdered innocent people and has shown little to no regard for the safety of civilians.
The BBC reported that in August of 2016, the Saudis carried out a bombing on Abs Hospital in the Hajjah Governorate, killing 19 and injuring 24. During the attack, 23 people were undergoing surgery, 15 patients were in the pediatric unit. Of those 15 patients, 13 were children. This is nothing new, the Saudi-led coalition has routinely been reported to bomb hospitals and it is all with the American tax-dollars. Your money!
No, this is not some warmonger’s policy that was started out of fear of terrorism. It was started under the Obama administration and then, and only then, exacerbated by the Trump administration. As of 2016, the Obama administration offered approximately $115 billion in weapons, military equipment and various other supplies to the Saudi Arabian government as reported by Reuters. The report Reuters received shows that said arms offers go back as far as January 2009, meaning that this activity has been going on for years and nobody spoke up. We were complicit. I wish I could say that this heinous dirty dealing has stopped, but I would be lying if I did. An April report by PBS showed that the Trump administration has authorized further sales to the Saudis, valuing at about $1.3 Billion in artillery. This continuous flood of money seems to have no end in sight. What good does it do? For what greater cause does this bloodshed serve? For an ally against terrorism? Our terrorist enemies want the people to hate us, to fear the mighty and terrifying America! What do we do? What is our response? We give them the propaganda equivalent of a silver bullet! Innocent children are dead by our bombs, made by American hands! It is high time that we acknowledge a painful reality that Saudi Arabia is not going to be a moral paragon for human rights and as such, it should not receive a penny from this Republic until they have proven that they are willing to show restraint and abandon their indiscriminate bombing of civilians. Lest we become guilty of this great moral failure.
