Dubuque – The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department recently acquired a new weapon to their belt — a taser.
The tasers arrived in late January for only the Sheriff’s Department. The Dubuque City Police did not receive tasers.
Lieutenant Scott Baxter says, “Our chief isn’t completely convinced that they are a good tool for us to use…I guess we’re not to that point yet where we feel we need them.”
Each Sheriff carrying a taser is required to go through training to learn how the tasers work. All together, the tasers and training cost $100,000… but the money is not coming from the taxpayers.
Sheriff Adam Williams states that the money is “paid for with seized funds from drug activity and other illegal activity.”
