Student Life having beautiful thoughts
True Beauty Week is coming up Feb. 22-26, sponsored by a joint collaboration between Du it Forward, the Health Center, OVE+R and Residence Life. This year’s events include a variety of support for fostering positive body image and a healthy attitude towards oneself and others, whether it be for individuals or in a group setting. It also aims to promote awareness of eating disorders for both men and women. This is the second time that True Beauty Week has occurred at Loras, the first being in 2014. The week always falls on National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW).
On Monday, Feb. 22, there is the Body Image Support Group with Tricia Borelli from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Health and Counseling Services Conferences Room in the ACC. Contact Tricia at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Also on Monday, there will be yoga with Dr. Hopper from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the ACC Ballroom. Attendees are asked to bring a towel or a yoga mat.
On Wednesday, there will be a table dedicated to True Beauty Week outside of the cafeteria. Also outside the cafeteria, on Thursday, Feb. 24, send some love with Du it Forward cards. The concluding activity for the week will be on Thursday, Feb. 24: making vision boards and dream jars in the Arizona Room in the ACC from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“True Beauty strives to create awareness about eating disorders and to promote positive self-images and self-love,” senior and creator of True Beauty Week at Loras, Cara O’Keefe, said. “All too often we hear from the media that we aren’t thin enough, pretty enough, popular enough, strong enough, brave enough, etc. and the goal of this week is to change this message from you’re not good enough to I am good enough, I am strong enough, healthy enough, pretty enough, brave enough, etc. “
