GALENA, IL – Ever heard of Throwback Thursday? How about Throwback Saturday? That is what people got to experience this weekend in Galena.
Friday and Saturday, February 27-28th, marked the fourth annual “Galena Goes ’50s” Dance Weekend, sponsored by the Galena Brewing Company. The weekend was filled with live music, dancing, contests, and prizes.
The fun started with workshops led by professional dance instructors. Then Saturday night, dancers put their skills to the test with an authentic 1950s-style Sock Hop.
Participants got to experience the small-town 1950s vibe while dancing the night away to live music provided by The Fast Clydes.
People come from all corners of the world to enjoy the quaintness of Galena, and this event provided yet another way for visitors to get a taste of the kind of culture that Galena savors. Kathy Cameron, owner of the Galena Brewery, says,”[The dancers] enjoy it! They are just thrilled when they get here. They don’t really know what they’re getting into…and by the time they leave, they’re just overwhelmed by how much fun it is!”
So dance experience or no dance experience, this weekend was the perfect opportunity to jitterbug or lindy-hop your way back to the 1950s.
