DUBUQUE- Dubuque locals may soon be seeing solar panels installed on multiple city-owned buildings.
The city has made energy efficiency a top priority within the past few years. Currently, the city is only looking to add solar panels to the Head Fire Department and its five fire houses. After undergoing review, if the installation plans are accepted activity is expected to move forward by the end of this year.
Dave Lyons, Sustainable Innovation Consultant for Greater Dubuque Development stated, “Dubuque really is serious about reducing its carbon footprint and keeping its energy balance local.”
Lyons also mentioned the potential utilization of other natural energy sources. Solar panel additions to the Carnegie Stout Public Library and the Regional Airport are also being explored.
