DUBUQUE- The Jule’s free daytime and nighttime services for college students in the Dubuque area may be coming to an end.
With the grants that funded the program coming to an end this upcoming July, the city is handing the decision of the Nightrider’s future to the colleges.
Loras College sent a survey to all students asking for input. The two possible solutions for continuing the program would be adding a fee to student’s tuition or using a traditional ride fare.
Loras Junior, Maura Zawaski, stresses the importance of the service, “On the weekends I feel like it keeps Loras students safe from getting downtown if they are going to the bars and if they have been drinking.”
Senior, Mary Kate Leister, shares a differing opinion, “I don’t ever use the Jule and I’m a senior so it doesn’t really matter to me if it ends in July.”
