SHERRILL, IA – Jeff Schmitt has been farming since he was 12 years old. That’s 44 years. Each Fall, he is eager to see what kind of yield his crop will have.
With the record rainfall earlier this year, both Jeff and his father showed some concern.
“We went through that big wet spell in September and August, but we got some pretty favorable weather here in the last while, so it’s really helping out a lot. The harvest is really progressing well,” exclaimed Jeff.
His father, Ken, added, “Rain this year is the reason. It kind of messed with us. I can’t believe in a way that the crops turned out as good as they did!”
Fortunately, the early yield reports are coming back above average, which came as no surprise to Jeff. The father-son duo are happy with the bumper crop and hope to finish up the harvest before Thanksgiving.
