A new nonviolence program is making an impact in the Dubuque middle schools and high schools. This program is called the Green Dot program and is a nationwide program focusing on bullying prevention, dating violence, and sexual assault prevention.
Mae Hingtgen, member of the Dubuque School Board says, “Green Dot is not an in your face program where we have a lot of posters up. Really the advocacy is that it works because it changes the students behaviors and students feeling empowered.”
Dubuque is the first school district in the nation to implement the program in both middle schools and high schools.
The district hopes to begin implementing the Green Dot methods into the elementary schools.
