DUBUQUE – Bringing people together with food and the love of volunteering – that was the mission of Resources Unite’s first annual volunteer fair.Held in the Millwork District, the goal of the event was to bring together local, nonprofits and businesses and people to learn about volunteer opportunities in the community.
“Part of our work is to help nonprofits tell their stories, so that they can get involved or get awareness in the community,” said Josh Jasper, Resources Unite’s President and CEO. “So we thought, let’s bring them all together and around some good food and invite the community down here.” With food trucks parked on the street, attendees were able to grab lunch while learning about
Nonprofits benefit from the personal interactions with people who live in the community. Kaylyn Decker, a Match Specialist at Mentor Dubuque, enjoys the opportunity to speak face-to-face with potential volunteers. “We really find it’s easier to recruit people and actually engage them and talk to them and, you know, explain the program.”
