From adopting a cat to training your dog, the Dubuque Humane Society uses pets to brighten community members’ days.
The Dubuque Regional Humane Society reaches 18 different locations, such as local nursing homes and community centers, with their pet therapy program.
After going through various tests and training, these cheerful canines help those in need relax and reconnect.
Community Outreach Coordinator, Lisa Kucharski, says “There’s a story of an older woman who for months maybe even years didn’t speak. She didn’t talk to anyone, she was kind of in her own little world and then we brought the dogs to her and one day she just opened up.”
The Humane Society offers training to anyone interested in joining the cause on the first Saturday of each month.
