DUBUQUE, IA – It has been a beautiful couple of weeks in Dubuque. To help students appreciate the nice weather, and to continue their transition into the new school year, the Loras College Activities Board (CAB) hosted their annual Family Weekend.
Running from Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24, Family Weekend is a time when Loras students invite their families for the weekend to party and celebrate their successes in college.
The weekend kicked off with comedy magician Daniel Martin, who performed on Friday night. He was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, and made sure the weekend had a good start.
On Saturday, there was an information session for the parents of incoming first-year students to ask questions about what college was going to be like over the next four years. Not many people attended, however, because of the good weather.
A few people attended the Family Weekend Tailgate, a luncheon held near the Rock Bowl on the Loras Campus. Complete with a variety of drinks and condiments, the hamburger/hotdog lunch allowed visitors to have good food prior to the Loras vs Buena Vista football game. During lunch there were some small outdoor games and a bouncy house for younger kids to use.
CAB wrapped up the weekend with a brunch on Sunday morning, which included an awards ceremony and door prize drawing. During the awards ceremony, Loras professor Kate Cooper received an award for her dedication to extracurricular events around the college, and Mrs. Katherine Kaminsky received the Parent of the Year award for her positive influence.
The weekend allowed parents to better appreciate Loras College and everything that goes into making their child’s education possible. John Walsh, a parent of a son at Loras, expressed his satisfaction with the college by saying, “…now I appreciate everything that’s being done for my son at Loras, and I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for him…”

We at LCTV would also like to apologize to Dr. Cooper and Mrs. Kaminsky for not putting in their images in the story; the camera was experiencing technical difficulties, and so we were not able to capture the complete awards ceremony. Please know that LCTV still extends its congratulations for your accomplishments.
