Return of the Flock
Return of the flock is among us! Loras College homecoming, hosted by the College Activity Board, will take place from Sunday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 13. There is a plethora of events planned for each day of the week for students. Sophomore Cora Shefchik is a member of CAB and is in charge of putting on the events for this year’s homecoming week. “Loras homecoming is a week-long celebration of alumni and current students coming back to celebrate traditions throughout the week. It is a big deal! A bunch of the alumni get to come back and visit friends who they might not have seen for a while, or might have recently graduated with. It is also a great time for current students to meet former students and hear about their experiences here at Loras” says Shefchik.
Events for the week are as follows. Sunday will be a day for the senior class to paint the hill outside of Keane in preparation for the week ahead. On Monday, donuts will be offered in the residence halls to start everyone’s week off with a smile and tasty treat. Tuesday will offer a tie dye event along with a flag football championship. Shefchik is most excited for this, saying, “I am most excited to be working the tie dye this year because we get the opportunity to work with people who we normally don’t work with. However, I am overall excited for all of the events we are to be hosting this year!” Wednesday will feature a carnival where the homecoming t-shirts will be handed out. Thursday will be a day for pictures with Dewie. Cash CAB will be going on Friday, offering students the chance to win a little extra cash. Later in the evening, Jim Wand will be performing in the St. Joseph theatre. Saturday will feature a tailgate at the Loras Parkway for all alumni and current students to come together as Duhawks!
Shefchik describes what homecoming often looks like at Loras by saying, “Homecoming is very decorative, we are painting the hill as always and are starting a tradition where the junior class will decorate the statue of Bishop Loras so that it is something fun that you will see at the top of the hill. There will also be posters in the concourse area and signs with the events that will be happening so that people will be able to see what we have planned!” Loras College Homecoming is a highly anticipated event by all and will be sure to attract the attention of all on campus throughout the week with many CAB hosted events and activities.
