Embers

Embers

by: Josh Vogt

Blackened and charred they fall

Shreds of something forged far stronger

Echoes of a time when things felt right

Before he fell into that night

When help was needed we answered the call

But he could answer no longer

He took it in his hands as his morals took flight

And sent it burning up into the light

I remember when on that paper I did scrawl

That we would fight for truth and honor

Standing for what it meant to be a knight

Now I’m afraid it’s him I’ll smite

The embers rest upon the ground, now small

Our friend lost to evil’s thrall

Another’s heart slowing to a crawl

Knowing that one way or another, this would end it all.
